The May 10 editorial in The Pilot aimed to vilify N.C. Republicans for passing the Care for Women, Children, and Families Act, and its thesis was the law is disrespectful to women and lacking common sense.

Restrictions on abortion in North Carolina changed overnight as the State Legislature voted to override Governor Cooper's veto of SB20 on May 16, 2023.

In December 2022, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced a change to the label of the emergency contraceptive drug Plan B One-Step.
Specifically, it removed the warning that Plan B One-Step, which primarily aims to prevent ovulation, may also cause embryonic deaths by altering the endometrium to prevent implantation.
